2009 Oscars Coverage

You may call it the Oscars, but I call it "A Beautiful, Lengthy Preview for Films I Have Not Seen." The Wrestler? Didn't see it. Benjamin Button? Could do it. Don't know why. Tropic Thunder I think is the only Oscar movie I saw this year, and Robert Downey Jr. did that almost by accident. Almost all of these other films, they fell off my radar. I was not a hip film-goer this year for whatever reason.

Luckily we're all over this at Mahalo.com, helping to keep us all in know for the big awards show this weekend. Here's a look at our category.

Oh I did see Slumdog also.

Shor-u-kan haz Street Fighter 4

Street_Fighter_4_Sakura_pkf_21509
This brings back the good ol' days. Which for me means the early '90s, the SNES console. It blew my mind that you could play an arcade game (which I dumped shovelfulls of quarters into week after week) in your home.

Now that wow-factor has faded, but what remains is simply great memories playing this game with friends. It possesses that special quality that few games can achieve. Games like Tony Hawk, Mario Kart, even Halo to an extent. It has widespread "I will kick your ass while we're all having fun" quality.

It will be difficult for Capcom to mess this one up. I'm looking forward to teaching my girlfriend to play.

I will never fly again

Whether it be by birds, ice, engine failure or terrorists, all manner of evil devices are waging war on the American airplane. They say when people notice things like this that it's just a cluster of media coverage. Really? I think it's more likely that it's a cabal of birds, ice and terrorists who've had just about enough of us and our flying this way and that.

Continental Flight 3407 crashed into a freaking house yesterday near Buffalo, New York, killing 49 people. This happened yesterday, February 12, 2009. One person who was in the house died. Image that for a moment, being in that house.

Also very sad, Beverly Eckert, widow of Sean Rooney (who died in one of the 9/11 planes) was reportedly on Flight 3407 and died.

We'll bring you more news on the crash as we have it.

Grammys 2009 Mania

The Grammys are upon us, and over at Mahalo.com we're pulling out all the stops for our coverage of the performances, award announcements, fashion, etc.

We'll even have live coverage during the event on Sunday, February 8.

I sure am glad Radiohead is performing, and a few others like Paul McCartney and Robert Plant, because I think I actually hate everyone else associated with the show. Sorry to be negative but it's as though they have purposfully collected musicians I dislike. Kid Rock? Kanye West? Justin Timberlake? Jonas Brothers? And they're all performing. Is this the VMAs or the Grammys, I'm lost.

UPDATE: Sorry I just did some research. It appears the Grammys has always sucked. In 2000, the best new artist was Christina Aguilara (who narrowly beat out Britney Spears). Boy they had their finger right on the pulse there. Best album went to Santana, and best video went to Korn. The Grammys this year actually looks pretty solid, come to think of it.
